In Allison Varnes's middle-grade novel SAY IT OUT LOUD, the main character, Charlotte, struggles to speak up because she doesn't want people to make fun of her stutter. At first she's afraid to say anything when bullies target her best friend, or when budget cuts threaten the beloved school musical. But over the course of the story, readers journey with Charlotte as she grows to face her fears and understand how much her voice matters.
Allison Varnes wrote SAY IT OUT LOUD in part based on her own experiences as a person who stutters. She will join us to read from the novel and answer audience questions in an informal, stuttering-friendly environment. All ages are welcome! A drawing will be held and one lucky attendee will win a signed copy of the book in hardcover.
