International Stuttering Awareness Day (ISAD) is October 22nd. It's a special one for us here at AIS as we are celebrating a recent grant from The Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation in support of our Atlanta office. In addition, there are so many reasons to get excited about ISAD!

1. Obviously, it's a great time to educate others about stuttering.

Some choose to self advertise their stuttering to a friend or boss, some choose to share an educational video about stuttering on social media. Others like to indirectly talk about their stuttering by talking with others about impactful organizations dedicated to helping people who stutter (AIS, SAY, FRIENDS, NSA, SFA). Or, you might consider getting creative! Just last night, we hosted a stuttering scavenger hunt in New York City, and our clients teamed up to spread the word about stuttering in a variety of subtle and not-so-subtle ways! How would you like to educate others about stuttering this year?

2. ISAD Stuttering Awareness Event in Atlanta

Join us on the Atlanta Beltline this Saturday from 12-5pm at our information table where we will share water, snacks and stuttering awareness with the public. Whether you are a current or past client a member of one of the local Atlanta NSA Communities, or just a person who stutters in the Atlanta area, we hope you'll join us!

3. AIS Public Speaker Series with Barry Yeoman

Have you checked out our Events Calendar recently? This is one of the many events we're offering this Fall We are so excited to host Barry on Tuesday October 23rd at our New York City office, and engage in a discussion about Radical Self Help. He'll talk about lessons we can learn from other marginalized groups.

4. ISAD Online Conference 2018

Every year in the month of October, the International Stuttering Association hosts an online conference and this the theme is "Speak Your Mind." Get involved in the conversation at isad.isastutter.org.

5. One-Day Conference for Adults who Stutter in New York City

NYC Stutters is hosting their third one-day conference on October 21st, 2018 in New York City. If you are able, go to this conference. You won't regret it. If you're in the NYC area and you can't attend the conference, consider getting involved with one of the many National Stuttering Association Chapters in the area!

6. Challenge the public narrative!

Steve Harvey gave highly questionable advice to a young woman who stutters on a recent episode of his show. Capitalize on ISAD and share the response from AIS Executive Director Heather Grossman on social media, or join the discussion with others.https://twitter.com/ninagcomedian/status/1052386205327753217--The American Institute for Stuttering is a leading non-profit organization whose primary mission is to provide universally affordable, state-of-the-art speech therapy to people of all ages who stutter, guidance to their families, and much-needed clinical training to speech professionals wishing to gain expertise in stuttering. Offices are located in New York, NY and Atlanta, GA, and services are also available Online. Our mission extends to advancing public and scholarly understanding of this often misunderstood disorder.
