Join us for a virtual screening of the documentary “Spit It Out”, followed by a Q & A with filmmaker Jeff Shames.
Jeff Shames is a veteran stutterer who (with Jonathan Skurnik) is Producer and Writer of the award winning documentary film, “Spit It Out.” Jeff was co-founder of the Manhattan Stuttering Group, and is an active part of the self-help stuttering community. He works as a social worker for a nonprofit agency in New York City, where he lives with his wife, Elisa DeCarlo.
“Spit It Out” is a funny and poignant portrait of Jeff Shames’s successful efforts to come to terms with his stutter and his family’s legacy of denial. The film intertwines stuttering with themes of family, disability, addiction, and marriage. Spit It Out follows Jeff’s inspiring journey of self-acceptance of his stutter as he creates a supportive community for himself in the self-help world, renews his relationship with his wife, and lives a life of joy and service.
After registration, you will receive an email with a Zoom link for the event.
