David’s speech from the AIS Public Speaking Workshop

The American Institute for Stuttering (AIS) began offering monthly public speaking workshops in January 2014 and they have been a huge success! These workshops aim to give past and present clients an opportunity to hone their public speaking skills. AIS client, David Louisia, gives us an inside look at his most recent speech from the June workshop. This workshop focused on incorporating body language to enhance public speaking.

June 16th, 2014 – The Annual Freeing Voices Changing Lives Benefit Gala was held by the American Institute for Stuttering. Becky Quick (CNBC co-anchor, Squawk Box) was the mistress of ceremonies, while Jes Staley (J.P. Morgan, BlueMountain Capital) joined Jeck Welch as a fellow honoree. Others in attendance included John Stossel, Sir Harold Evans, Ellis Lankster (CB, NY Jets), Trumaine McBride (CB, NY Giants), Arthur Blank (co-founder, The Home Depot & owner, Atlanta Falcons), Kenneth Langone (co-founder, The Home Depot), and Suzy Welch (author and wife of Jack Welch).

June 16th, 2014 – Jack Welch, former CEO of G.E. and a person who stutters, was an honoree at the Freeing Voices, Changing Lives Benefit Gala for the American Institute for Stuttering (AIS). Jack’s wife, Suzy Welch, accepted the award on his behalf, and shared a video of Jack accepting the award.

Jackson and Sander Flaum were honorees, while Emily Blunt was the mistress of ceremonies and Bruce Willis was a surprise guest. John Krasinski, Emily Blunt’s husband, was also in attendance, in addition to John Stossel, Joe Moglia, Arthur Blank, and Alan Rabinowitz. The #AISgala is held annually to raise money for therapy scholarships for people who stutter. AIS is a non-profit organization that offers universally affordable therapy for people who stutter of all ages.

Jackson was introduced by Bruce Willis. The mistress of ceremonies for the gala was Emily Blunt. John Krasinski, Emily Blunt’s husband, was also in attendance, in addition to John Stossel, Joe Moglia, Arthur Blank, and Alan Rabinowitz. Extreme desensitization: Umang talks about the subway challenge

Umang accepted the subway challenge while participating in the May 2013 intensive therapy program at the American Institute for Stuttering. The subway challenge is not a required activity in the AIS intensive program, but a challenge for those willing to work on desensitization in an extreme manner. Eight years after intensive therapy, Jon Paul watches his speech

Jon Paul attended the AIS intensive therapy program for stuttering in May, 2005. Near the end of the program, he and the other participants gave speeches to invited friends and family. Recently Jon Paul visited with us watched the video of his speech. At the 2010 Freeing Voices, Changing Lives gala for the American Institute for Stuttering, communications strategist and honoree Michael Sheehan was introduced via video by a good friend of his, President Bill Clinton. The gala was June 7, 2010 at Tribeca Rooftop in New York City. Emily Blunt hosted the evening, and the honorees included journalist Clarence Page, actor Harvey Keitel, and Mr. Sheehan.
