Concise Descriptive Text
"Founded in 1998, The American Institute for Stuttering (AIS) is the only non-profit organization in the United States that provides state-of-the-art treatment to people who stutter, support to their families, and clinical training to professional speech pathologists. Our mission extends to advancing public and scholarly understanding of this often misunderstood disorder."
Important Points
- Stuttering is a genetic and neurological disorder and is NOT caused by nerves or anxiety as most people still believe.
- Stuttering remains one of the few handicaps that people still laugh at.
- Good help and resources are available.
Client Quote
"Stuttering was worse to deal with than blindness because people just don't understand stuttering."
Eric Warren, client of the American Institute for Stuttering who is also blind.
