Passionate about the right to self-expression, Noura approaches her work as a therapist with the mindset of helping people who stutter communicate freely as equal participants in society. She greatly admires the self-help movement and believes strongly in advocacy efforts.

5 things you should know about Noura:

  1. She received her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Queens College in the City University of New York, where she also studied counseling and anthropology.
  2. She underwent training with the Stuttering Foundation of America in Palin Parent-Child Interaction therapy as well as using cognitive approaches with individuals who stutter and their families.
  3. She helped to organize and presented at the first FRIENDS convention to happen outside the United States. She trained speech-language pathologists from local government hospitals in Mumbai on addressing attitudes and emotions in therapy.
  4. She collaborates regularly with the Indian Stammering Association. She led the first efforts in India to create a play written and performed by people who stutter called “People Who Buffer: Theatrical Stories by Stammerers”.
  5. She nurtures her creative spirit through dance, writing, and theater. Noura also loves to learn new languages. She speaks Arabic and is currently learning Hindi.
