Hi,
I was happy to see this young man give a speech at the Gala and was happy that he gave it very well with no stuttering but to be realistic he read his speech, had no eye contact with the audience except from time to time he would very quickly look up and just as quickly go back to his written speech. The performance was interesting and should be studied carefully but many people who stutter can learn something by heart and in a supportive atmosphere like at the Gala and pull off something like this. Still worthy of merit but you would have thought that in the most supportive atmosphere that a stutterer can be in, an AIS Gala where the whole Gala theme is about stuttering and stuttering only, you would have thought that Kieran could have made eye contact with the audience because if he couldn’t do it there then how would he fare in a situation where he can’t depend upon automatic, complete and spoken/spoken support?
