Susan, have you used surveys with family or friends as a way to open up about the issue?

Lots of people are cautious about who they chose for the surveys. Although, when we take groups to local parks, we sometimes include an added challenge. We have them turn around and go to the first person they see. When we do this, people realize just how much they were screening people. Some look for "nice" people and others may simply avoid people that are similar to them, as that seems to cause discomfort. In the end, this activity teaches, among other things, that our assumptions about people are never completely correct.

i agree carl. also, it could be a way to talk about stuttering with someone you want to talk about it with when you're not exactly sure how to broach the subject.

by the way, i was pretty cautious when choosing my victims...

thanks for the comments, everyone!

Hey Aman! You're right. Stuttering surveys don't need to be seen as an activity only done with an intensive therapy group, or only with other people who stutter. It may even be more of a powerful exercise if you can administer them on your own, in your own home environment.

Where do you administer stuttering surveys?

I think stuttering surveys in one's home environment should be a suggested followup post-intensive (Hi, Carl! :-P). I try to do them occasionally, just to keep the skill fresh...

Hi John, thanks for the comment. If you don't mind me asking, are you cautioning talking to strangers because of a safety risk in general, or because of something related to stuttering?
