Yes, counseling is an aspect of our therapy approach. In addition to counseling, many of the activities involved in our intensive and individual (one on one) therapy models are intended to address attitudes and emotions.

So, our therapy is certainly not all about fluency. We work with people who stutter in a holistic manner, because stuttering affects a whole person, not just his/her speech.

At AIS, we actually talk about relapse as a great learning experience. Roisin also talks about relapse in her video blog posted this past week, I'd encourage you to check it out.

Do you do any counseling or therapy on acceptance, and attitudes and feelings? It's not all just fluency, is it? People need tools to be prepared for relapse.

I went to the intensive last summer and go to the support group now. They have taught me how to control my speech better and have a better outlook on life. Congrats on putting the blog together.

Brought back memories from when I interned two summers ago. I still look back at that experience and realize how much I learned. I am actually working with a three year old boy who stutters and I've been trying to implement some of the strategies I learned into my treatment goals.
